JSR Micro
JSR Micro, Inc. is an industry leading fine chemicals supplier to the high tech industry. JSR has established the reputation of being a leading-edge manufacturer by providing products of the highest quality, developing processes that ensure predictable, repeatable, best-in-industry results.

JSR used a legacy application developed on the MS Access platform for managing their Quality Control processes. The application had been continuously updated to adapt to changing quality requirements of the customers and new product additions. There were performance issues and restrictions on the no. of users who could use the system at any given time. The platform had reached its limits and was no longer updatable or scalable.

We revamped the architecture of the Quality Control (QC) system and developed a Web based application from the ground up. The application has a central, flexible database, a robust system design to overcome the limitations faced by the existing application and improved efficiencies across the board. We created a very interactive and easy to use interface. We also setup a data warehouse with associated analytics and reports.

The main features of the application are:
  • An interactive, AJAX based application with user friendly features which leaves the windows based application far behind in user experience.
  • Extremely extensible architecture which allows adaptation of data entry forms and reports when new business needs arise without modifying the code.
  • Highly secure and scalable application that performs data operations efficiently even with many concurrent users.
  • Complete QC process management system both for raw materials (inputs) and finished goods (outputs).
  • Customizable user roles and user levels for security management.
  • Concurrent data entry for the same product by different users.
  • Support for Dual Quality control standards (by JSR and Customer) with automatic application of quality standards (specifications).
  • Automatic QC reports (Certificates of Assurance) generation based on product specifications.
  • Export of Certificate of Assurance to different formats like XML, CSV and PDF.
  • Data import into SAS for statistical analysis.

REC Solar
REC Solar specializes in grid-tied solar electric design and installation, offering the latest technology, state of the art equipment, and financing opportunities for all commercial and residential customers. It is one of the nation's largest photovoltaic installation companies with several million watts of solar installed.

REC Solar was being left behind by competitors who had started deploying interactive web portals including online tools for geo based customer quotes and sales lead generation. They also needed a much more maintainable website where non-technical users could easily add content and manage the database-driven components. They were looking for a development partner to revamp their existing web presence and provide an interactive system that customers could use to get pricing on solar installation, and order online.

We redesigned their web portal, providing a platform with a powerful, easy-to-use Content Management System (CMS) and developed an interactive Solar Analysis Widget that customers could use to get solar installation information and pricing, try out different options, order systems online and schedule appointments.

The main features of the web portal are:
  • An interactive Solar Analysis Widget that uses online map solutions to help users locate their house using satellite images, draw out an area on their roof where they want solar panels installed, point out the direction of panels and roof slope and provide other relevant information. Based on this the system would calculate pricing options and present them to users.
  • Generate solar energy production and energy consumption charts using solar energy data from PVWatts web service and various formulas.
  • Provide break even period and profitability analysis with bar diagrams and charts.
  • Interact with and send customer information to SalesForce CRM for lead generation and appointment scheduling for installations.
  • Visually appealing site design with several Flash animations and AJAX functionality.
  • Easy to use Content Management System for all pages and database driven modules for articles, news, FAQs, videos etc.

Cisco Systems
Cisco Systems, Inc. is the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet and WorkplaceIQ is a technology solutions provider for the real estate industry. We integrated applications for Cisco Systems and WorkPlaceIQ by accepting and manipulating XML documents (related to property management) using the Microsoft SharePoint Server and Microsoft BizTalk Server platforms.

The project had two main functions: Import and Export. Import covers all steps needed to receive documents from Cisco, process/map documents and access web services to update the property management system. Export covers all steps needed to access web services to extract data out of the property management system, split them into single-record documents and route them to Cisco.

Both Import and Export rely on a number of custom components that work with BizTalk Server, SharePoint and Microsoft.NET web services to process and route XML data. These components are as follows:
  • ASP.NET pages to receive documents
  • BizTalk Application Integration Component that acts as an adapter between BizTalk Server and web services
  • Web Service proxy component that communicates with the web service
  • Microsoft.NET based Export Application that runs at scheduled intervals to export data using web services
  • XML Splitter component that converts exported XML documents into single-record XML documents
The system accepted incoming XML documents through ASP.NET pages from WebMethods and routed them to BizTalk Server for processing based on various criteria configured in the SQL Server database. We configured BizTalk to map incoming documents to desired formats. We created components to call web services to parse the documents mapped by BizTalk Server and insert data in the database. We created COM+ components to call web services and transmit/receive XML documents.
